Alderley Motor Co. garage and the JN Bauer car showroom will close this week to enable Russell Homes to demolish the properties and replace them with family houses.

The developer has planning permission to replace the showroom and garage on Trafford Road with four semi-detached town houses which will be four storey and have four bedrooms.

The two businesses will close on Thursday, 4th April, resulting in the in loss of nine jobs.

Peter Wright, Manager of Alderley Motor Co., has worked at the business for 34 years and said the premises has been occupied by a garage for over 40 years.

Peter Wright said "Thank you to all the people of Alderley Edge who have supported us over the years, without them we would not have been here.

"It is so sad that we are in this position."

Alderley Edge Motor company had about 1350 people on their customer database and serviced in the region of 1800 cars.

Jasper Bauer has run the car showroom next door for the past 10 years.

The original building was converted into a garage about 45 years ago by my step-father, Frank Greenfield. At the time, there was a large workshop on the other side of Trafford Road and that part of the village was more commercial / industrial than it is now. After Frank died my mother, Hilda, briefly considered developing the site for residential development but she was very attached to the team at the garage and eventually insisted that it would remain a garage for as long as she lived.

Sorry to hear this. I hoped that the council would be able to find both businesses an alternative site, if this development went through. My family has used the workshop for a number of years and we wish Peter and his staff all the best. I'll miss JNB and his excellent range of quality second hand cars too.

My wife and I were greatly saddened to hear of the impending closure of the garage which we have used for thirty years . Over past months hope had developed that the business might be saved through relocation , but that was not to be . This outcome is a significant loss to the many customers in and around Alderley . Peter and his team epitomised the old values of high quality service and great integrity . We shall miss them a lot .

Extremely sorry to see Alderley Motors close ...........
Peter Wright and his team have done a fantastic job servicing cars there for many many years, with genuine kindness and a very professional ability.
Let's just hope they find other premises locally as they have served this community extremely well and it would be a great pity for them, and us, to disappear for good !

Although my wife and I have not been customers as long as others who have made their comments, we can only re-iterate what an excellent service and quality of work we have had from Peter and his team. It is a very sad day indeed to learn of the closure of Alderley Motors. One had hoped that relocation was a possibility, obviously not. We wish Peter and his team the very best of fortune in the future, in the hope that they do find a suitable premises to renew their business.

While working for RRG Toyota in Macclesfield I regularly delivered parts to Peter and his team, and was always dealt with in the most kind and helpful manner. I wish them all the very best.
It is sad that no relocation is possible.

What a shame, another great business leaving though hopefully relocating... to knock down a nice old building to put up over priced monster houses... i give up with this country and their councils

The more I think about this pathetic situation, the more I despair at the way this sloppy and useless Council have behaved towards Peter and his team and also the way the Council have ridden roughshod over us, the ratepayers, who wanted these business premises to stay open and serve this community and also keep Peter and his team in useful employment.

It also amazes me how greedy and selfish some people are over wanting to throw someone out of a job so they can build yet more houses and make even more money.

I understand the landlord of these premises is already a multi-millionaire .......... he obviously needs more money to satisfy his ego.

So sad to hear this! I was in great hope that Peter and the team would be able to find another premises. Alderley Edge Motors is defiantly the best garage i've come across and its terrible that a business after so long has to be closed down. The council could of saved a fantastic local service, they really have made a bad decision granting planning permission. Wishing Pete and the team all the best, really going to miss them!

We the people of Alderley and Wilmslow want this garage to stay, this message has been received by Cheshire East and ignored ,run roughshod over, what about these people's
"Human rights" to run a business and make a living , and not be thrown out, to claim the dole!

I feel incensed , by the way our people our local environment , be it allotments, local businesses, Green belt, Infrastructure , playing fields ..........are all at Risk from Cheshire East.

They are supposed to look after the residents of the borough , jeepers !!!
Where was it that farmer , drove his muck spreader past the council offices?

Today is a very sad day indeed, My husband Peter has built up this company to what it is today along with Derek before he retired.
His customers are his friends too and when I visited today there were wellwishers arriving and leaving very upset. I find it unbelievable that the Chancellor has on many occasions wanted to promote small business's, this one happens to be in his constituency!
Thank you all in Alderley Edge for your kind cards and letters and for supporting him over the years.

Yes I would also like to re-iterate Alyson's comments - It is hard to believe that Alderley Motor company has come to an end. I have throughly enjoyed working at the garage and I wanted to express my thanks and appreciation to all our customers that we have provided a service to and for all the support and kind words. I am going to still continue as a mechanic so if you would like to keep in touch I will be in the garage for the rest of the week.

Really sad to see both businesses go, what a sad state of affairs that we can't be innovative enough to keep our valuable assets in tact, especially ones that there is clearly a market for. It's not like you can get your car fixed over the internet or on your drive. And, with all the empty/derelict or unused buildings/spaces and plots in and around the village, I can't believe an alternative space couldn't be found!
Couldn't the council come to some arrangement with somewhere like the County Hotel, for example, to create a village business park accommodating the garages and other community-essential businesses, for the good of both the village and the council? It sits there empty, decaying year-after-year!
It is hardly surprising that we just have a village full of restaurants/bars, supermarkets and little else. Our towns and villages are changing shape and we need to find new ways to change with them, without defaulting to the easy option of allowing them to become entirely over run with bars and restaurants. We have to find a way to create a balance.
Thank you Peter and the team at Alderley Motors for the brilliant service you have provided to me and my family over the last few years, it has been much appreciated. I shall particularly miss Peter's great sense of humour :) I wish you all the very best and hope you find a new home soon.

I too would like to express my sadness at the closing of this brilliant garage and the excellent service provided by Peter, Chris, (and previously Derek ) and the team. Their departure is a great loss to their many customers and the community in general, as the building added a bit of character to what is fastly becomming a very bland village scene.
My thanks very and best wishes to you and your families.
