Girl Guides celebrate World Thinking Day

Did you know that the well known brand of Jelly Babies had a real message attached to each one of them? Did you know that originally they were called 'Peace Babies'?

Did you know that each of the colours represented a colour in the flags of those countries participating in the First World War?

Not everyone knows that, but on Monday, 25th February, almost 200 Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Leaders discovered those facts – and others! They also discovered why they had been asked to come, not in uniform, but dressed either in red, yellow, black, green, orange, or pink!

What a wonderful sight the church looked as this mass of colour filled the huge space as everyone enjoyed a café-style, interactive, service in an atmosphere of energy, enthusiasm, and fun, whilst, on the more serious side thinking about countries far and near who need to have peace so that the lives of their people can be changed.

A fantastic event, and as everyone went home clutching a selection of Jelly Babies, they will surely remember a very happy Thinking Day 2013. 200 girls – and yet others are on our waiting lists, waiting and hoping that new leaders will come along so that lots more girls can enjoy the fun, friendship, and experiences that everyone has been talking about since Jelly Babies took Alderley Edge by storm! (Only the one brand though – not just any jelly babies!).

Thanks to Alderley Edge Methodist Church who hosted the event, just one in a calendar of special dates to mark their 150th Anniversary Year.

Well done to all the girls that took part in this Thinking Day celebration.

I have been in the Girlguiding organisation for over twenty years as a Brownie Leader in the village. Sadly I am due to retire in an official capacity in May but we are always looking for people to come and volunteer. It is really great fun and very rewarding so if you are interested in hearing more or volunteering please contact me at the following email address:
