Planters in need of urgent attention

Alderley Edge Parish Council are planning ahead for spring and summer so that the village looks blooming marvellous.

Last year they employed the Community Garden Centre in Macclesfield to plant the tubs and hanging baskets with flowers ahead of the Jubilee celebrations, however they are now in need of some attention.

Speaking at last week's Parish Council meeting, Cllr Mary Maczkowiak said "I was in the village the other day and was distraught at the complete and utter mess of the pots and baskets. We need to get somebody to do it urgently."

Cllr Melanie Connor responded "We've been approached by the company that do the Festival Hall, do all the hanging baskets for the Music Festival and throughout the summer here and he's coming with a quote for the hanging baskets and the baskets for the village.

"He will undercut and do a good job. We've chosen the colours of pink, white and red and he wants to put some blue in as well to give it a good feeling."

Cllr Mary Maczkowiak said "All of them, every single tub in the village is dead. We just need to get him on it asap."

Cllr Connor added "We had an annual maintenance thing with Cheshire East Council but they just put them in, ignored them and charged a huge amount of money.

"So we decided we weren't using them again and we wanted to use the Community Garden so they did them for the Jubilee and for the planters and we had a very funny summer where it rained a lot and they were ruined. Some of them were stolen, and so this year we've decided to see what this gentleman comes up with. He was very keen to do this for us so we are waiting for the quote to come."

Looks like its that rotten it might full apart if moved. No plants in it to look dead as it is winter but the planter looks like its breathing it's last.

Is this story an early April fool? All the existing 'planters' should be collected up and put in a skip. If there is any money for new planters/planting it should be put towards the budget required for the proposed new hard-landscaping/traffic management scheme CEC and the PCC are working on for London Road. I'm sure we can all manage without a few planters for a year or two.
