Two men attempted to steal lead from the roof of a derelict hotel on Thursday, 31st January.

Police were called at 12.21am by a member of the public who reported suspicious activity at the former County Hotel.

The caller then discovered a quantity of lead by the roadside, which has been returned to the owners of the building.

The men were picked up by a blue Ford Focus with a registration starting with the letter V.

If you noticed anything suspicious, call 101, alternatively information can also be given anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Last week the Northern Planning Committee recommended that planning permission be approved for the former County Hotel to be demolished and replaced with 14 apartments, on the proviso that the applicant makes a contribution towards affordable housing.

Call 101 if you noticed anything suspicious,I'm confused !!
I'm sure the article states the police were informed at 12.21am,which also implies the theft was still in progress.
At what time did the police actually turn up,or didn't they not bother.
