Name the worst potholes

Following last week's announcement that Cheshire East will spend an extra £25 million over two years repairing roads across the borough we are asking readers to help us identify the worst potholes blighting our roads in Alderley Edge.

Successive bad winters and under-investment has left many of our roads in a dreadful condition.

Several local residents have contacted us to complain about the condition of local roads and standard of the repair work, saying when they are patched up the potholes often resurface after only a short period.

Marina McHugh said "This is just a sticking plaster when major road refurbishment is necessary. The roads in this village have been neglected."

The Council has repaired more than 46,000 potholes since April 1st 2012, at a cost of £1 million, and now aims to fix another 42,000 by the end of this summer.

How many of these should be in Alderley Edge?

Councillor David Topping, who replaced Councillor Rod Menlove last week as Cabinet member in charge of the environment, said "With road conditions deteriorating and new potholes forming rapidly, the Council is experiencing a backlog of defects so we must prioritise repairs during the remaining winter months.

"This means busy commuter routes will be treated before, say, residential cul-de-sacs which have less traffic.

"But we are determined to get on top of the problem using the latest technology Velocity patcher combined with traditional highway patching and maintenance activities.

"By adopting this approach, we are expecting to address more than 42,000 potholes by the end of summer and resolve a significant number of defects that have formed in residential areas that can't be treated during the winter months."

Help us identify the most severe potholes in Alderley Edge by sending your photos to [email protected] along with a description of where the photo of taken.

Potholes can be reported via Cheshire East Council's online fault reporting page at www.cheshireeasthighways.org/ReportIt or by phoning the highways team on 0300 123 5020.

Two very dangerous potholes are on the end of Heyes #Lane just over the little bridge heading towards the Hough

II agree with the above comment ............
it's almost outside the Emersons Management white-painted building on Heyes Lane.
It's also exactly the same position where there is a constant water leak around that area.
The water leak has been running for the last 12 months now .... Councillors !.... Action please !
When it's freezing it becomes EXTREMELY dangerous indeed !

There is an enormous pothole on Knutsford road (near the Warford Lane junction). Quite deep, and nearly two foot long. On the plus side, it is slowing the traffic down.

£20 per pothole repair!
That's either amazing value (in which case, Well done Cheshire East!) or an indication of why
the repairs don't seem to last.

Top end of Moss Road. The road has been flooding for at least 2 months due to water pumping up throught a man hole. The road was dug up and is still dug up 2 months on. There is now a good sized pot hole just at the point of the road works therefore you have to steer around that and the roadworks.
Also, not a pot hole but 2 large manhole covers on the footpath outside the girls school opposite Davey lane appear to be sinking into the ground!

Name the worst potholes. There is not enough room on here to name every road in the whole of Cheshire.

The entire length of Chorley Hall Lane from Ryleys Lane to London Road has masses of potholes of all shapes, sizes and depths, it is probably the worst stretch of road in East Cheshire. Some of the worst potholes are on the railway bridge which is barely wide enough for 2 cars to pass resulting in collision hazard and a danger to pedestrians using the single, very narrow footpath as cars attempt to miss the potholes and each other. The ones on the bridge have been patched up a number of times but the repairs never last.
