Cracking idea to help fund Scout expedition

A group of Explorer Scouts have come up with a new idea to raise funds towards a trip of a lifetime.

The Alderley District Young Leaders, aged from 14 to 18 years old, are doing service in scouting for their Duke of Edinburgh award.

Leader Jackie Toombs explained "As a group we like to do international trips to give the Explorers an experience of a lifetime, with the condition that they fundraise to enable as many members of the group to go on an equal footing.

"The group of 13 are going to Iceland glazier hiking on the 2nd August 2013.

"Each member of the group has a target of £1,000 to raise for the trip, our fundraising so far has consisted of car washes, bag packing, entertainment evenings, running refreshment stalls at Triathlons, marshalling marathons and helping the Round Table at a number of events."

Their latest venture to raise funds towards next year's expedition involves cutting down unusable pallets, bagging them into carrot nets and selling them as kindling bags.

The Young Leaders are selling the 10kg bags for £2 each or £3 including delivering in the Wilmslow and Alderley Edge area.

To order some kindling or for further information email Jackie Toombs or call her on 01625 540290.
