Plans to replace County Hotel with 14 apartments

Plans have been submitted to demolish the existing former County Hotel building and construct 14 apartments with parking and associated landscaping.

The proposed new development will provide twelve three bedroom duplex apartments and two three bedroom apartments.

The site, off Alderley Road, is situated within the North Cheshire Green Belt and has been derelict since the closure of County Hotel in November 2009.

This planning application is submitted by Howard and Seddon Partnership on behalf of The Seddon Pension Scheme.

The proposed building has been designed to fit on a similar sized footprint as the existing one but has been moved deeper into the site to lessen the impact from Alderley Road. A landscaping scheme has been prepared to reduce the amount of hardstanding on site and create more amenity space. The application also proposes to open up the existing second access to the North of the site to provide two access points into and out of the site.

A previous application (reference 11/4542M) , submitted at the beginning of the year, to extend and refurbish the former County Hotel to create six apartments and build a new four storey block of 8 apartments was withdrawn in March 2012.

Two planning applications have been refused for the County Hotel site – one for a 30 bed extension was refused in 1995 and one for a 40 bed lodge was refused in 1997. The main concerns with both these applications was the loss of protected trees, issues of car parking and conflict with Green Belt.

The planning application for the development at the site of the former County Hotel, reference 12/4353M, can be viewed on the Cheshire East Council website.

Alderley Edge Hockey Club would be very interested in using the County Car Park in the interim.

Proposed building on this eyesore should be approved immediately.
The whole area around this site looks a complete mess.
Just get on with it, and stop procrastinating !!!

Havent looked at the planning application but this has got to be a good thing, at least in principle, as almost anything is better than the current eyesore and I cant see there being appetite for an alternative usage in the current economic uncertainty. And it would be nice if something positive (even similar) could be done with what was Yesterdays - another eyesore, albeit much less visible from the main road.

Agree it's a huge eyesore but yet more same old apartments.........does not actually fill the soul with joy. I guess it was only a matter of time. Shame though.

Somebody please tell me why all these buildings have to be knocked down and then rebuilt again? The only thing wrong with The former County Hotel is that it is closed and going derelict.

Its the new business plan for pubs , run it poorly , close down , leave it to become an eyesore , put in planning permission and win it because anything is better than a derelict site ; seems to work ... maybe there should be some onus on building owners about the state of buildings ... :-)

I would actually love it if they used the existing building for the apartments, I think it's a gorgeous building that just needs to be done up, would hate for them to rip it down and replace it just for the sake of it!

It's certainly an eyesore as it is !

Mr Bennett and co should be forced to do something about its current state.

Similarly with the old 'Yesterdays' site behind.
