Scouts pay their respects to former president

1-Harold Horry's Memorial Service 035

Alderley Edge Scouts gathered in the village of Great Warford on Sunday, 25th November, to pay their respects to their former President and District Leader.

A parade was held in honour of Harold Horry, who passed away in July aged 86 years.

Led by the Alderley District Scout Band the parade included representatives from all the Scout groups in the District who were carrying their flags. It set off from Ostlers Nurseries and marched along the road to the Great Warford Baptist Chapel.

Everybody managed to squeeze into the chapel where a short but moving memorial service was held. After the service, the band master Simon Taylor played the last post and a wreath was laid. The parade then made its way back to the nursery.

Speaking after the event, District Commissioner, Stephen Buckley said "Harold first came to the Chapel when he was a three year old toddler, he met his wife Barbara there and he was Secretary and Treasurer for 62 years. It seemed right to recognise his service and commitment by parading in the village to the chapel. Best still, it was a lovely sunny afternoon!"
