Despite the rain hundreds of residents turned out for tonight's Christmas lights switch on.
It's just a shame that Carlos Tevez who was expected to switch the lights on never made an appearance - which is why the celebrity is never revealed beforehand!
Fortunately the two winners of the school's poster competition, Digby Lloyd, age 10 from Alderley Edge Primary School, and Julianna Parker, from Year 6 at Alderley Edge School for Girls, were on hand to turn on the lights.
For the first time, London Road was closed to traffic so the festivities could take place in the centre of the village and many of the shops stayed open for the evening.
The crowds were entertained by performances from The Ryleys Choir, Alderley District Scout Band, Alderley Edge School for Girls and St. Philip and St. James Church Choir.
Father Christmas also braved the rain, arriving on his sleigh much to the delight of the eagerly awaiting children.
The event was organised by Mitch Gilbert, on behalf of Alderley Edge businesses, some of whom provided complimentary treats including mince pies, mulled wine and hot chocolate.
Surely after such dreadful weather for both the Jubilee Street Party and the Alderley Edge Christmas Lights Switch On we are due glorious sunshine next time London Road is closed for a community event.

You ask an overpaid footballer to assist in the Community and that's what you get in return ...... a no-show !
Maybe we could persuade him to make make amends by offering a community donation to cover the revenue our money grabbing councillors feel the more modest local earners should now pay for night time parking in the village to fund their excessive salaries for their non value adding activity?
