A footpath leading to Alderley Edge cemetery has finally been cleared of vegetation.
We have received regular complaints from local residents regarding the state of the footpath on Ryleys Lane, opposite the junction with Chorley Hall Lane, which has apparently been overgrown for years.
As a result it has been very difficult for wheelchair users and people with prams to access the cemetery on foot from the village.
I contacted Cheshire East Council in May and again in July regarding this particular stretch of footpath. In July I was informed that "clearing the footpath is included in a programme of works which will be carried out in August".
However, the work did not happen over the summer and we continued to receive complaints so I contacted CEC again last month.
A Council spokesman responded this week saying: "Cheshire East Highways works hard all year round to ensure that footpaths are cleared and safe for use, and we would urge people to report footpath faults wherever possible.
"The excessive rain over the summer months presented us with somewhat of a challenge, as vegetation grew quickly along the footpath to Alderley Edge Cemetery.
"But all that remains, now that the vegetation has been cleared away, is an element of resurfacing works which is in our current schedule of works to be carried out in the New Year.
"We are also working closely with nearby landowners to ensure that the hedge is regularly cut back to an acceptable level so that people can pass with ease."

By the way, there are several people who wish to form a 'Friends of the Cemetery' group. If you would like to join them, please contact the Clerk to the Parish Council and hopefully you can be put in touch with your like-minded peer group.
