Petrol station closed for refurb

The Total Garage on Wilmslow Road is closed this week whilst the new owners carry out refurbishment works.

Highams, who own Aldeli diner, have purchased the adjoining petrol station from Rontec.

They will be rebranding the garage, have agreed a fuel supply contract with the Texaco and are in the process of installing new point of sale terminals, credit card machines and new signage will be fitted this week.

Stephen Higham said "As well as improving the cosmetic appearance of the premises we plan to supply the shop with high quality convenience food from our Aldeli next door. There will be pre packaged sandwiches, soups, salads and more."

If all the work goes to plan then the petrol station will reopen on Friday, 16th November.

Sounds wonderful. Not before time, it was slightly scruffy and dated.

Heard a rumour the Kings Arms Esso station is closing down. Anyone know anything about this?

I hope that's not true. The number of petrol stations has fallen drastically in recent times probably due to so many filling up at supermarkets. Personally, I wouldn't let supermarket petrol anywhere near my cars or motorcycles (check out the Telegraph's 'Honest John' on the subject), but plenty do.

it was once famously said that it is better to run out of petrol than fill up with Texaco

I use both Supermarket Petrol stations and "Branded" petrol stations. (Esso, Texaco, etc)
There is no difference in the petrol whatsoever !!
I know this for a fact as I have seen the same petrol tankers delivering to Branded stations then going straight to their next delivery, a supermarket petrol station.
A few years ago there was an incident whereby (I think it was an Asda supermarket) there was a problem with their petrol causing problems one day immediately after they had a delivery.
However, that could have happened to any petrol station, branded or supermarket,
So, you go to the petrol station with the best offer at the time, be it supermarket or branded.

With regard to tankers going from one branded site to a supermarket site and the inference that it's the same fuel if you were to pay attention to the tanker you would see that there are many compartments on the tanker each of them seperate and therefore capable of carrying different fuels be it diesel, unleaded or super unleaded etc.

Of course there are different compartments in these tankers !
I didn't for one minute think all the petrol and the diesel was swishing around together in one huge vessel ..............
For example, the lead-free petrol in one particular compartment would be delivered to a "branded" petrol station, then the same tanker would make further deliveries to a supermarket, using the very same lead-free petrol compartment.

I hope that Texaco, Alderley Edge, does not charge the same high prices as Texaco, Wilmslow !

The point I was trying to make is that the tankers could possibly have more than one compartment for unleaded and use one for the supermarket delivery and another for an Esso station and have different mixtures/additives in each. I did not think that you were stupid enough to think that all of the fuels were mixed together in the one tank.
