Waste reduction volunteers needed

Cheshire East Council is hosting a training day to show people how to to shave pounds off their shopping bill – and become a Waste Reduction Volunteer (WRV) for the Council.

Over a month the average family throws away £50 worth of food and the Council is now looking to recruit WVRs who can spread the word about the benefits of home composting and reducing household food waste.

The Council would like to hear from people who want to take part in a day's training at St Peter's Church, Elworth, Sandbach on November 3rd.

Volunteer Sally Hoare, from Wilmslow said: "Being a volunteer has lots of benefits and I've met some great, like-minded people.

"I am passionate about doing my bit to help save the planet and enjoy talking about ways to reduce food waste at events like this throughout the year. I would definitely recommend it".

Councillor Rod Menlove, Cabinet member in charge of environmental services, said: "This is fun, engaging and extremely worthwhile.

"Not only will your efforts help divert needless amounts of food and organic waste from going to landfill, the training will also help people plan their food shopping more carefully and save money in the long term – up to £50 per month for a family of four."

Volunteers will receive training, travel expenses and membership of the WRV reward scheme. Anyone interested in becoming a WRV should visit www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/recycling to sign up, or telephone the project coordinator on: 01270 686094.

But just imagine what we'd save if we did away with all the Councillors and over paid council employees! Frank Keegan himself said Councillors couldn't really DO anything - you can imagine I asked him why we paid the £1.million in expenses alone last year then! Recycling is a good idea but personally I'm offended by such a wasteful organisation (800k on a waste transfer station that never happened, 450k on a children's home shut down by the police within a month) telling me how to save money. Especially as they've got all my money and a lot of other people's besides
