London Road is going to be closed to traffic for this year's Christmas lights switch on which means that for the first time the festive celebrations will spread right down the main street.

Since the opening of the bypass, Alderley Edge Parish Council has been keen for the Christmas lights switch on to be moved from The Parade to London Road to enable it to be a much bigger affair.

Speaking at last night's Parish Council meeting, Cllr Melanie Connor said "The number of people who now turn up to Alderley for the lights switch on makes it very dangerous with the road open and lots of young children around. And now that we can close the road for major events we have decided to do that."

Mitch Gilbert and the traders are organising what's going to happen at the event this year, which is always a highlight in the village calendar.

One of the local radio stations will be in attendance, many of the shops are expected to stay open whilst bars and restaurants will be offering special Christmas treats.

Cllr Connor also confirmed that they are talking to Alderley Edge Community Primary School about organising a nativity procession to "make it a little more interesting for lots of different people".

London Road will be closed to traffic from 4pm to 10pm on Thursday 22nd November.

We will have more details about this event in the next few weeks but in the meantime put the date in your diary.
