Pumps now working so bypass should reopen before rush hour

Work is underway to clear the Alderley Edge Bypass to enable it to reopen before the evening rush hour.

Police closed the three-mile road this morning because of flooding, which was caused by the failure of pumping equipment near Welsh Row, which left the road under three feet of water.

A spokesperson from Cheshire East Council said "The drainage pumps along the bypass are now back in operation, a significant amount of mud and detritus has been deposited on the carriageway, a cleaning operation is now underway and every effort will be made to reopen before evening rush hour."

Hilarious! One schmendrik racing through three feet of water in his watermobile and the obligatory "one man & his dog" watching the sport from the terraces!
Can local water sport get any better?

Actually , the two cars in the picture were stopped as the engines had been flooded. The large wagon coming down the A34 from Wilmslow decided to keep going at some speed and provided a bow wake that lapped across the bonnets of these cars . The rest of the traffic from Wilmslow (before it was closed off ) made for the shallower cycle path running just in front of the man with dog . I think this might be where all the mud on the road came from . Above this location was the large overspill reservoir which itself was brim full and spilling into an intermediate water ditch running parallel with the A34 . All quite precarious .
