Alderley girls celebrate A-level results

Alderley Edge School for Girls is celebrating yet another year of excellent A Level results with nearly 40% of results being awarded at either A* or A.

For the fifth consecutive year, the School has achieved a 100% pass rate and virtually 90% of all grades were awarded at A* to C.

The girls have achieved strong results across all of the 23 subjects offered, particularly in the traditionally male-dominated ones such as Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. With 100% A* and A grades in Further Mathematics and in Economics, 80% A* and A in ICT and Physics and over 70% A* and A in Mathematics, they certainly have plenty to celebrate.

Headmistress Mrs Susan Goff said "We are absolutely delighted that the girls have performed so well. In an increasingly competitive arena it is wonderful that the determination, focus and diligence of the students, together with expert guidance from their inspirational and dedicated teachers, have led to such outstanding results which will allow them to pursue a wide range of promising and exciting careers. The all girls' nature of the School allows the students to aim high and nothing stands in the way of them fulfilling their dreams."

Alderley Edge School for Girls is keen to congratulate all students but the following high achievers are worthy of individual mention:

Amy Francis, who has secured her place at Oxford University, achieved 5 A* grades in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Music Technology. In addition she recently gained her ATCL Music Diploma, taken at the same time as her A levels.

Emily Williams achieved 4 A* grades in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Further Mathematics and will now go on to Durham University to study Physics. Emily must also be congratulated for achieving full marks in all four Physics examination papers.

Rachel Donnelly-Gresham is going to read English at the University of Exeter following on from her D2 grade in Cambridge Pre-U English Literature (equivalent to an A* grade), an A* in ICT and an A in Geography.

Rhiannon Lunney, who only joined the School in the Sixth Form, is heading to the University of St Andrews to study Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, having gained 2 A* grades in Mathematics and Further Mathematics, and an A in Physics.

Ayesha Anwar achieved 2 A* grades and 1 A grade and will also go to the University of St Andrews to study Economics.

Many congratulations should also go to Olivia Bates who gained 1 A* and 2 A grades and is off to Leeds to read International History and Politics, Beatrice Salsano (new to the Sixth Form and the UK - from Italy) with 1 A* and 2 A grades going to Kings College London to read French and Hispanic Studies and Simone Milner who gained 3 A grades and will go to Leeds to read Business and Economics.

Mr Daniel Parkes, Head of Sixth Form, praised the students for their performance at A Level; "The girls worked incredibly hard and thoroughly deserve recognition for their first class results. We all wish them the very best for their future studies."

The results are not completely finalised, as Cheshire East were still waiting for results from four schools when this information was sent, but the projections show that students across the borough have achieved a provisional pass rate of 98%.

This is in line with the national average, although marginally down on last year’s pass rate of 98.1%.

Over a quarter of all students achieved grades A* to A (25.2%) and over half (52%) achieved an A* to B grade.

The provisional figures also show that Cheshire East’s sixth formers achieved an average points score of 767. This is up from 747 last year.
