Ryleys to welcome new head

Pat & Paul July 2012

It's the end of an era at The Ryleys School, following the retirement of Headmaster Pat Barrett.

Having joined the School in 1975, and been Head for 15 years, the final day of term was a sad day for staff and pupils alike.

The decision to retire was not an easy one for Pat and his wife Barbara; both were wholly committed to The Ryleys.

Pat Barrett said "Barbara and I have both been very happy and fulfilled at The Ryleys, but after 37 years and with the school in excellent shape, the time was right for a change.

"After a very thorough search and selection process, I'm confident that Paul Berry will be a fantastic Headmaster and will continue to take the School from strength to strength."

In September, the new term sees Paul Berry take up the reins. His previous position was Deputy Head of S. Anselm's in Bakewell, a coeducational day and boarding school in the heart of the Peak District.

Paul Berry said "I feel honoured and excited to be taking over as Head of The Ryleys from September. Mr and Mrs Barrett have done an outstanding job and I can assure you that I will do everything possible to build on their success."

Mr Berry will be moving to Alderley Edge with his wife of 17 years Jane and and their two children, James who is seven, and Evie, four.

My son James went to Ryleys School and left at the end of year 7 to go to Kings School and is going into year 9 in Sept 2012. Having started in Mrs Boswell class in the infants he went right the way through to Year 7 and enjoyed his time at the Ryleys very much. He is still in contact with lots of the boys from Ryleys who not only moved to Kings School but moved to other secondary schools in the area.

Mr and Mrs Barratt were always there to support James throughout his school career and were always so very friendly and helpful. James often refers to Mr Barratt's very interesting History lessons in fact.

I really wish the new Headmaster every success as Mrs and Mrs Barratt were a very top act to follow.

James is getting on very well at Kings and is still exceptionally sporty!!

With fond memories of a fabulous childhood school experience!

Well done Mr and Mrs Barratt and enjoy your future together!

Speaking for S.Anselm's, we are very sorry to lose the Berrys but know they will do Ryleys proud.
