Alderley Edge resident Christine Munro has today been awarded another top accolade for her range of jams and preserves.

The 73 year old entrepreneur, and organiser of the both the Alderley Edge May Fair and Farmer's Market, has picked up a gold star in the 2012 Great Taste Awards for her Red Pepper and Chilli, which is already very popular with customers.

On awarding the accreditation the judges described the preserve as having "a lovely sweetness and then the chilli hit. The flavour is really good".

Christine's Cheshire Preserves, which she set up in June 2009, now has a collection of eight Gold Stars and two Cheshire Life Test Taste awards.

Christine told alderleyedge.com "We are surprised and absolutely delighted to have won again, particularly when we are being judged by the cream of the foody world and our competitors are some big multi national firms.

"We will be celebrating tonight and deciding whether we deserve a holiday or maybe go down to London for the Award Ceremony in September."

The Great Taste Awards has gained widespread recognition among the country's retailers and consumers and all entries undergo rigorous tests by a specially selected panel of experts, including leading chefs, buyers, food critics and deli owners.

Christine's Red Pepper and Chilli can now bear the Great Taste Awards logo showing it has been independently proven to be of origin, quality and excellence.

Christine added "We cook at my son's house in Macclesfield now where he has a purpose built kitchen, but I do small batches of new recipes at my house because I love the challenge of trying out new things and having my friends taste them and give me their comments. I have recently made Apricot & Almond Chutney, Apricot & Vanilla Conserve and Pineapple Spiced Chutney. They got the thumbs up from my friends and family."

Christine's Cheshire Preserves count the National Trust amongst their stockists along with a number of local delis, restaurants, hotels and farm shops.

One of their biggest customers is Chester Zoo and local residents can taste her products at the next Alderley Edge Farmers' Market on the 12th August.
