Volunteers needed for village youth club

Young people in Alderley Edge have been given permission by Festival Hall manager Ashley Comiskey Dawson to hold a youth club at the premises during the week.

PCSO Jim Newns explains "The hardest part of setting up an initiative like this is finding an appropriate building that suits the needs of the youth and the community. Its great news that the parish council are backing this initiative as there is a great need for a youth club in the village. The parish council have ear marked some monies that will be used to help set up and run this much needed club.

"I meet many young people in Alderley Edge who just want a place they can meet and hang out, Jenny Byrne is one such person."

Jenny said "For this club to get off the ground we need volunteers who will be committed to giving some of their free time.

PCSO Jim Newns had been hoping to set up a youth club last year, which was to be run in the upstairs room at The Royal Oak, but the plans were stalled when it became clear that the Royal Oak was closing.

At the time Cllr Mary Maczkowiak requested that a sum of £2000 be included in the 2011 Parish Council budget to help support this initiative, saying "We have talked about this for too long and need to have some sort of youth facility."

Jim Newns added "Once volunteers have been identified, they will be required to have a CRB check. We need about 10 volunteers so we can run a rota of when a volunteer helps which in turn will make things more manageable for the volunteer."

The club will operate on a week day during the evening.
