Alderley physios picked for Olympic team

Kate and Jean Olympics

Two physiotherapists from Physiofit in Alderley Edge have been selected to join an elite team of volunteers at the 2012 Olympic Games this summer.

Both are thrilled to be taking part and really looking forward to the huge but important task ahead.

They will be based at the Olympic Village's Polyclinic, a state of the art medical centre housing some of the best equipment and facilities in the world.

Jean and Kate have already attended a number of training sessions, along with famous faces such as Eddy Izzard and the British Olympian, Jonathan Edwards, and in May they travelled down to West Ham to collect their uniform and security passes. They attended a final training session in June where they visited the Polyclinic and the Olympic park itself.

Asked why they wanted to be part of 2012, they said "We are honoured to be one of the 400 strong volunteer Physio team and be given the chance to treat some of the world's greatest athletes. Professionally, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, where we'll work alongside some of the best physios and medics around and no doubt will come away with lots of wonderful memories to share with family and friends.

"It's likely we'll get the chance to treat athletes from countries unable to provide armies of their own physios which will be a great privilege and in some ways, more interesting for us."

Asked who they would most like to offer treatment to from Team GB; Jean said Sir Chris Hoy as he must have the finest thighs in Cheshire!

Kate said she would love to treat Rafael Nadal if he strained his gluteus maximus but any middle or long distance runners would be great because this would mean tending to athletes who take extremes of fitness very seriously.

They both expect to see a wide range of sports injuries including pulled hamstrings, torn calves, sprained ankles, torn quads, strained shoulders, muscle spasm, back and neck pain.
