The public car park on West Street, which Cheshire East Council has been leasing from Bluemantle, has closed.
The car park provided twenty spaces and is located underneath 12 West Street.
A Council spokesman said: "West Street car park does not belong to Cheshire East Council – it is privately owned. The Council previously leased twenty car parking spaces from this private owner.
"The owners notified Cheshire East Council that they require the land back and the lease has now been terminated.
"The loss of 20 car parking spaces will not adversely affect the area as the car park was under-used and in poor condition.
"South Street and Festival Hall car parks continue to cater for long stay customers. Nearby Parade Car Park, owned by the same company, has 81 short stay parking spaces available and the Council has renewed a 15 year lease for the car park."
John Leighton, Director at Bluemantle, said "Following the refurbishment of the surface level car park at The Parade and the creation of 14 additional spaces we agreed with Cheshire East that they would hand back the undercroft car park - this was a mutual decision due to the condition of the building.
"We are in the process of refurbishing the car park and will look to let the spaces to businesses in the Village on annual contracts."
The Council has recently issued a public notice proposing that reference to West Street car park is removed from the list of parking places within Alderley Edge on the Macclesfield Borough Council (Off Street Parking Places) (Civil Enforcement and Consolidation) Order 2008.
A copy of the proposed Order, a plan showing the area to which it relates, a copy of the original order and a copy of the public notice may be inspected during normal opening hours at the Council's Westfields offices in Sandbach.
