Alderley Edge School for Girls (AESG) recently welcomed pupils from Holland, France, Germany and Spain as they hosted a Comenius project.

The school has participated in Comenius projects for many years - the aim of which is to develop further knowledge and understanding of European cultures and languages, and to help young people to acquire life skills for their personal development and future employment.

The European teams worked together in preparation for their 'Festival of Talent' concert which was also performed to their fellow pupils in their respective schools and countries via a live web feed.

The performers were singer Itzel Nowak from Germany, a magician from France, a quintet from Spain playing oboe, clarinet, horn, saxophone and guitar, an AESG band called Hit and Miss who performed Cold as Ice and the eventual winner Eva Eldermans, a singer-songwriter from Holland who accompanied herself on the guitar and piano. Votes were cast using Skype and Eva was awarded a trophy for her performance.

Those involved in the project also spent time in the local area and were also lucky enough to experience a walking tour of the creative and digital media facilities on offer at the University of Salford's MediaCityUK Campus. The group were delighted to meet university students and would like to thank Dr Andrew Cooper, Academic Director MediaCityUK at the University of Salford for taking the time to accompany them on a tour.

Following on from the visit, the group visited to Imperial War Museum, Old Trafford and The Lowry.

The words "funded by the European Union Lifelong Learning Programme" are notably absent from this article.

As an independent assessor to the LLP, can I congratulate AESG on their achievement and refer anyone interested in the excellent work funded by this programme, to either: http://www.britishcouncil.org/comenius.htm; or http://eacea.ec.europa.eu/llp/comenius/comenius_en.php
