Alderley Edge Hockey Club (AEHC) has been awarded another accolade.

Following a meeting of the European Hockey Federation, AEHC were awarded the runner up place in the European Hockey Club of the Year 2011 competition, coming second to the German club TSG Heilbronn.

The Club, which opened their new artificial grass pitch in conjunction with The Ryleys School in October, are also English Hockey Board's Harvester Club of the Season, Cheshire Sports Club of the Year and Cheshire East Club of the Year.

Alex Teasdale, England Hockey Board National Manager of Clubs and Facilities said "I can't tell you how pleased I am for AEHC. I saw them celebrate winning the Harvester Club of the Season last July and saw how much it meant to them. I was then lucky enough to accompany Harvester to the opening of the AEHC pitch in October and saw first hand what a friendly, vibrant club we had as winners.

"For them to be recognised on the European stage is very well deserved. I know how hard many of the club members have worked over the past 10 years to get to this point, and I know it hasn't been an easy process. We are incredibly proud of them. EHB would like to pass on their congratulations and thanks to AEHC for their European recognition and their commitment to hockey."

Alderley Edge Hockey Club Secretary, Kelvin Briggs commented "It's great to see our hard work and commitment to developing the sport in the local community recognised by The European Federation. Champagne corks will be popping at the Club as we celebrate but there's little time to rest on our laurels as we plan for future growth and success at The Edge."

Truly magnificent achievement. I have seen that the club is continuing it's development of all ages, I saw a group of adults trying out the Rush hockey initiative on Wednesday's. Keep up the good work.
