TV stars beat footballers in celebrity cook-off

Goalkeepers Thomas Kuszak and Joe Hart swapped their goalie gloves for oven gloves in a charity cook-off between footballers and TV stars.

The soccer aces donned their aprons alongside Emile Heskey, Jermaine Pennant and Cameron Jerome plus TV stars Jack P Sheppard, Danny Miller, Kirsty Leigh-Porter and Craig Phillips.

The event was held at Panacea on Sunday, 25th March, to raise funds for the Five Stars Appeal, a Manchester-based charity that helps children with life-changing and life-threatening illnesses.

The footballers and TV stars were split into two teams with some cooking in the kitchen, some serving on the bar and others serving as waiters and waitresses.

The diners voted after each of the three courses and the TV stars were crowned winners of the closely fought battle.

A total of £20,000 was raised on the night and will go towards helping children with life changing and life threatening illnesses.

Director of Fundraising Nicola Smith said: "It was a really great and successful night and all of our celebrities were definitely up for the challenge. We can't thank Joe Akka, Andreas Brozos and the Panacea team or the footballers and TV stars enough for all their hard work. To be able to raise £20,000 is just amazing and this money is so important to help the children who we support to get them closer to receiving lifesaving treatment."

Andreas Brozos, manager of Panacea Alderley Edge said "The event was for a great cause and was a whole lot of fun with the teams getting up to their usual tricks in order to try and win the competition. "
