Following the success of her charity concert in 2010, which raised over £1,400 for the Mampong Babies Home in Ghana, an Alderley Edge student has organised another charity concert.

Sophie Roberts, an A level student at Alderley Edge School for Girls, has arranged an evening of music and dance to raise money for Plan UK, which is running a new campaign called 'Because I Am A Girl'.

Sophie explained "This campaign supports young girls around the world, giving them the opportunity to go to school, become educated and unlock the cycle of poverty that otherwise would see them forced into early marriage and hence vulnerable to violence, HIV and death in childbirth. One in seven girls forced into marriage are under fifteen years of age, some as young as five."

The concert will take place at the Festival Hall on Saturday April 28th, starting at 7.30pm.

Sophie added "The evening will showcase an array of talent to help raise money to support this worthy charity and help girls walk into school, not up the aisle."

Tickets are on sale now, priced £8 for adults and £4 for children, available from Sophie on 01565 872687.
