A Member of Alderley District Scout band has taken second place in the Traditional Youth Marching Band Association (TYMBA) Musician of the Year competition.

Shereena Hewitt from the Alderley District competed against the top six marching band musicians from around the UK in the finals of the TYMBA Musician of the Year 2011.

Shereena got to the final of the competition after winning preliminary competitions which were held throughout 2011.

The finals of the competition took place January 29th in Birmingham, where Sherena, playing a non-valued Bugle, came second in what proved to be a tough competition.

Organiser Carl Nelson said: "Congratulations to all of the competitors, they all played brilliantly in what I imagine to be quite a stressful situation, especially stood up there on that stage looking down at everyone."

Shereena, shown above taking part in the Alderley Edge St George's parade, is a member of the Alderley District Scout Band and can be seen leading the band on its public events during 2012 in and around Alderley Edge.
