Plans to create a new retail unit on West Street, designed to house the Alderley Edge Post Office have been approved.

These plans will enable the post office to relocate from 45 London Road to a financially viable unit at 12 West Street.

A parallel application, submitted by Bluemantle, has also been approved to change the use of 45 London Road from A1 retail to A3/A4 restaurant and bar.

Once the Post Office has relocated, the Bubble Room will expand in to the neighbouring property to enable the Mason family to extend their business and carry out a comprehensive refurbishment of the premises.

Bluemantle, the landlords, will provide a DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) compliant retail unit, with level access for customers and staff, by replacing four numbered parking spaces, which are primarily used by occupiers of the offices above.

John Leighton of Bluemantle said "We are pleased to have received planning consent which will secure the future of the post office. Both Post Office Ltd and Interim Enterprises, the current franchisee, are fully committed to the relocation to West Street.

"A reconfigured Bubble Room will enable them to expand their food offer within an extended restaurant area."

Jane Mason said "We are pleased that permission has been granted. It has been a long time coming, however, we think all has worked out well in the end as the village would appear to have retained the services of a post office.

"We also now get the chance to extend our restaurant side of the business, which will give us a better opportunity to compete in the village with the existing larger restaurants, the new development at No 15 and the proposed PizzaExpress in the previous Wine Rack unit.

"As regards timing we are in the hands of Bluemantle as they need to process the arrangements with the Post Office to firstly construct the new premises on West Street and then complete the relocation. However, we envisage if all this goes to plan then we would like to be open for late summer."
