Library to close for refurbishment

Alderley Edge Library is to close, temporarily, next week to undergo general improvements and provide access to new technology.

Councillor David Brown, Cabinet member with responsibility for performance and capacity, said: "Alderley Edge Library will be closed for two weeks for improvements which will make it more modern and easier to use. Self-service machines are to be installed, which will give users the option of issuing, returning and renewing items by themselves.

"We will also be introducing a customer service point shortly after re-opening which will enable staff to verify benefit claim forms and concessionary travel passes. The layout will be changed, moving the computers to a quieter space at the back of the library and the children's area will be bigger.

"We want our libraries to be modern, comfortable and functional places for all our residents. This means having up-to-date facilities which provide a number of services, not just borrowing books.

"We apologise if the closure causes any inconvenience, but the improved library will be worth the wait."

Alderley Edge Library will close from Monday February 27th and will re-open on Tuesday March 13th.
