Carol service draws a crowd

An outdoor carol service, held at The Parade on Thursday 22nd December, proved popular with both church goers and passers-by.

This is the first time Churches Together in Alderley have hosted an open air carol service which was supported by the Macclesfield Salvation Army Band.

Assisted by clergy from the other churches in the village, Rev Ben Clowes, Chair of Churches Together in Alderley, led a short service of carols, readings and prayers which was attended by over 100 people from all the churches in the village including many passers-by who stopped and joined in the carol singing.

Rev Ben Clowes said "It was a wonderful way for the churches in Alderley Edge to each begin their Christmas celebrations and a better turn out than anyone had hoped for. The band were brilliant. Churches Together in Alderley are proud to be able to work so closely together but have never celebrated Christmas together but many who attended were thrilled and said that Christmas could now begin!"

Churches Together in Alderley is a group of four churches, St Philip and St James Parish Church, St Mary's Parish Church, St Pius X Catholic Church and Alderley Edge Methodist Church. The group, which is affiliated to Churches Together in Cheshire, is run by a committee of those nominated from each church.
