Action group set up to save Heyes Lane allotments

Following a meeting on Monday, 31st October, a community action group has been set up to save Heyes Lane allotments and prevent the Parish Council from turning the plots into a car park.

Alderley Edge resident John Sanderson, who has an allotment on Heyes Lane, organised the meeting which was attended by twelve people, a mixture of allotment holders and concerned local residents. The group, which is independent of The Alderley Edge Allotments and Gardens Society, decided that saving green spaces in Alderley Edge is top of their agenda.

John Sanderson said "The Heyes lane Allotment site is one of few green spaces within the built up area of the village. The others are the Cricket Club and the Park through to the football field on Chorley Hall Lane.

"We oppose the building of houses on any of these sites. We are told the intention is to build car parking on the Heyes Lane site but no-one believes this. The costs simply do not make any sense. It is a scam, a hoax. People who live in this village like the feel of having open spaces with hedges and trees and wild life and we will fight to keep them."

As reported last month, Alderley Edge Parish Council hope to take ownership of the three village allotment sites as soon as possible. They then plan to relocate the Heyes Lane allotments to land off Lydiatt Lane, which is currently owned by Alderley Edge School for Girls, so they can turn the Heyes Lane allotments into a car park.
