Action group forming to fight allotment plans

Allotment holders are looking to set up a community action group to fight council plans to turn their plots into a car park.

As reported earlier this month, Alderley Edge Parish Council are hoping to take ownership of all three allotment sites in the village as soon as possible. They then plan to relocate the Heyes Lane allotments to land off Lydiatt Lane, so they can turn the site into a car park.

Alderley Edge resident John Sanderson, who has an allotment on Heyes Lane, is organising the meeting on Monday, 31st October, which is open to all local residents.

John told me "I thought it would be better to have some activity that involved everyone rather than just allotment holders because it affects more than just them.

"The idea is to set up a community action group if that's what people want."

This initial meeting will take place at 11a London Road, the offices of Power Engineering Consultants, at 6pm on Monday 31st October.

Email John Sanderson or call 01625 586808 for further information.

Lisa's has reported everything correctly. I need to clarify just one thing. The meeting next Monday is independent of The Alderley Edge Allotments and Gardens Society and independent of allotment holders.

My inspiration is due to the 80+ comments to Lisa's previous article with link above.
All these comments seem to be from residents only a few of whom may be allotment holders. The vast majority are from residents who are against the loss of Heyes Lane allotments and many of the points made are very well reasoned - there is a clearly a lot of talent out there. It occurred to me that, with some coordination and some encouragement, great things might be achieved by an independent Community Action Group, perhaps more than AEA&GS might achieve on its own.

This is a good idea. However, I suspect you may get a bigger turn-out if the meeting was scheduled on a night other than Halloween. There may well be people who would like to attend but who are already committed to 'Trick or Treating' activities with their children. Just a thought...

I had not thought of that. On Tuesday, if you telephone my office number above, I shall be pleased to meet you and any other mums similarly affected to summarise what happened.

OK we do need more parking but how about bulldozing the houses of councilors claiming compensation for their houses being near a bypass the approved and using that space? Or if the location doesn't suit turn them into new allotments. Seems fair don't we think chaps?
