The second novel by Alderley Edge resident Elizabeth Horrocks has just been published.

Elizabeth Horrocks, a retired teacher of English Literature and former BBC Mastermind Champion, has been living in Alderley Edge for the past 26 years with her husband of 40+ years and two grown-up daughters.

She is involved in girl guiding in the village, St Philip's & St James Church, particularly its youth drama group, as well as the Macclesfield quiz league.

The Dark Space, like its predecessor The Edge of Doom, is an Arthurian fantasies with a modern twist. It starts as a tale of life in the rural Cheshire in 2024 which is tinged with sadness for Elli and her son, Will, since the 'disappearance' of Will's father.

Will suspects that the official story of Lance's going is untrue, but he can't possibly know the full extent of it.

A great darkness is spreading over the land and the arrival of strange visitors at the farm sparks off a headlong adventure through time, where the legends of The High King, Arthur and his Companions, dragons and Power-wielders turn into startling reality. But as the final battle approaches, the success of the relationship between Lance and Will becomes almost as crucial to Elli's happiness as the defeat of the dark hordes.

Elizabeth Horricks told me "I'm pleased to have book two published - I hope it can be read by people who haven't read the first.

"I have evidence that it does 'stand alone' but of course I hope people will then want to read the first! The third is well over half way to being finished."

"The Dark Space" is available from Waterstones priced £9.99.
