Farmer turns barista

A new cafe has opened at Horseshoe Farm this week serving locally produced food.

The comfortable cafe is located in the farmhouse offering customers the opportunity to relax and enjoy good quality food and drink at reasonable prices. All the cakes are produced locally and the sausage and bacon sandwiches on offer are made using the farm's own produce.

Andy Morrison, who has spent the past 28 years at Horseshoe Farm, told me "Over the years people have constantly mentioned that it would be nice to sit down and have a coffee whilst enjoying the surroundings.

"It's great that we've been able to do it with minimal investment by using the farmhouse and if it works out we'll look to build a separate cafe. We very much welcome parents with children and our intention is to turn the barn in to a play barn.

"All the produce in the cafe is produced on the farm and I'm proud that our products have always been reasonably priced."

Horseshoe Farm Cafe has about 30 covers and additional seating outside on the veranda. It will be open from 9am until 5pm Monday to Saturday and 10am until 4pm on Sundays.

Visitors can also see a collection of farm animals in their natural environment and purchase a selection of fresh locally produced food and drink in the farm shop, which was established 16 years ago.

The family run business is renowned for its home reared Angus beef, fresh chickens, home cured bacon, smoked products, award winning sausages, homemade pies and freshly baked bread from the Artisan bakery.

I've been a customer of Horseshoe Farm for many years and was not suprised to find the food, coffee and atmosphere in the cafe to be excellent as I'd expected.

It really is more than just a trip to the local shop when you go to Horseshoe Farm. The staff are friendly, there's lots to see and the food is excellent - I would heartily recommend that everyone makes the effort to pop in an see what's going on, even if it's just for a coffee.

What a great idea! I can't wait to go along and sample some of those bacon butties. Andy's bacon is really delicious, just like grandma used to make!! I wish you the best of luck with your new venture.

Just had a latte and cake at Andy's - Fantastic and great value. My recommendation from the shop is the fillet steak - having properly hung beef really makes all the difference to the taste and it is really is a treat. All the best Andy

Great idea Andy....only problem being that people can't sit outside and inhale exhaust fumes....I'm sure it'll be a great success despite this!

Congratulations on the Cafe opening at Horseshoe Farm . Expect a few Alderley Edge Hockey Club parents and players popping in for a coffee and more once the new hockey pitch build is complete. How about a half time 'Hockeychino' service for THE EDGE Hockey centre, your new neigbours?

Everyone seems very impressed with the cafe at horseshoe farm. I wonder if the closing down of Fruitcake in the village had anything to do with giving Andy the idea that a cafe at Horseshoe Farm was a sound, money making venture. Very canny!

Probably not Sarah...he already has the space so isn't increasing his overhead with rent...just widening his current offering...makes sound business sense.

Most farm shops you visit have a cafe attached which is a bonus for the customers. They can taste some of the delicious foods in the cafe before they buy them in the shop. I think it is a great idea and am very glad it is proving to be a success.
