Council announces Keegan's replacement

Cllr Michael Jones

Cheshire East Council has announced that Councillor Michael Jones will join the authority's Cabinet.

Councillor Jones, ward member for Bunbury, will take responsibility for the resources portfolio with effect from September 1st.

He will be taking over the role previously held by Councillor Frank Keegan, ward member for Alderley edge, who was axed from the cabinet in November last year. Councillor Wesley Fitzgerald, Leader of Cheshire East Council, took over responsibility for Finance and Resources in the interim.

Councillor Peter Groves will become the Cabinet support member.

Speaking about his new role, Councillor Jones said: "In these challenging times we all need to make our resources go much further. It is my intention to continue the ongoing work within Cheshire East, to utilise our resources and to give residents better value for money and keep Council Tax low.

"I bring a wealth of experience to the task and look forward to working with the excellent officers and all members to ensure that Cheshire East is successful for all the electorate."

I think this is a faulty headline. I think you meant successor, which is nearly accurate if you forget Cllr Fitzgerald who toiled for 9 months in a part of the role.

I covered Resources plus Legal plus HR, and did not need a Cabinet Assistant. The new role does not have Legal or HR and has a Cabinet Assistant.
