It is now nearly 5 weeks since the charity Wilmslow Wells for Africa held their annual fund-raising Gardens Day.

The weather was rather disappointing for the 20 local gardeners, including 3 in Alderley Edge, who generously opened up their beautiful gardens to the public, but we now know that their hard work was rewarded by a record sum.

The income on the day has been supplemented by subsequent donations and the magnificent total of £8914 has been raised!

Wilmslow Wells for Africa has already financed 140 projects to provide clean water and sanitation in rural communities of 15 different African countries. There are several more promising projects for the charity's Trustees to consider funding when they next meet in September and this added income from Gardens Day will allow them to contribute even more to the very desperate situation in so many parts of sub-Saharan Africa.

The charity is very grateful to all the gardeners and to the many hundreds of visitors who supported us.

This is a member post by Helen Battilana, Chairman of Wilmslow Wells for Africa.
