Chancellor makes surprise visit

Alderley Edge School for Girls was delighted to be visited by local MP and Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne on Friday, July 2nd.

George Osborne met with Headmistress, Mrs Susan Goff, to discuss the school's plans to develop further sporting provision for the girls which could also be used by the local community.

The Chancellor was enthusiastic about the plans, confirming that he will shortly be writing to the Council in support of the development.

Some of the school's Sixth Form pupils, who had just returned from the Opening Doors Conference in Manchester which profiles high achieving career women, met with the Chancellor who personally invited them to visit the Houses of Parliament and Downing Street in the Autumn.

Mrs Susan Goff, Headmistress, commented, "I am delighted that the Chancellor was able to take time out of his busy schedule to visit our school, and we are extremely pleased that he is going to support our efforts for the school and community. I am certain that the girls will be taking up the offer of a visit to London later this year".

More information will be provided as and when available regarding the school's plan for developing new sports facilities.

Always good to see more sporting facilities for local schools with the 'value add' of community use. Good luck to the School in their quest and well done George Osborne for backing them. Working together, Schools and Sports Clubs can really deliver a sustainble well sign-posted pathway from School to Club and a lifetime of healthy sports participation. Looking forward to hearing more about the plans soon.
