Guiding in Alderley reaches crisis point

Girlguiding celebrated its Centenary last year, and in Alderley Edge we are very lucky to be so well represented from the age of 5 through to 80 something!

It is a vibrant, fun organisation and offers exciting challenges to all its members. As far as our adults are concerned, everything we do is on a voluntary basis, but the returns we reap are far more meaningful than money.

However, Guiders don't grow on trees and we have reached a crisis point at Alderley Rainbows and Chelford Guides where from September we do not have leaders to oversee the running of these two units. Alderley's Rainbow unit was started in 1987, the year Rainbows joined the family of Guiding, and Chelford Guide Unit has been around for 80 years; many girls have been associated with both units and have enjoyed the "girl only" space that Guiding provides.

Rainbows meet every week during term time for an hour. The Rainbows section is the first step on the Guiding ladder and is for girls between the ages of 5 and 7. Rainbows follow a programme which encompasses the Guiding ethos and has the themes "Look, Learn, Laugh and Love" which are linked in to the many activities they are able to enjoy.

Guides are aged 10 – 14 and their activities are many and varied, but all of which enable the girls to learn skills that will stay with them for life. Through the programme they can earn badges and can work towards the Baden Powell Award, which is the highest award in the Guide Section.

We need enthusiastic people, aged over 18 to help us out and provide our "littlies" with their weekly experience of Guiding – or you may prefer the challenge of today's teenagers!

Training will be given, and help is always on hand so that you feel supported and part of a team. You might be able to offer help on a less regular basis; either way, you too, could share in all the wonderful opportunities that Guiding has to give – we would really welcome you into our family and let you see just how rich the rewards can be!

Please email Tracey Lees or call on 07926 077135 if you are able to help.
