Churches raise over £4000 for Christian Aid

Recent house-to-house collections in Alderley Edge have raised over £4000 for Christian Aid.

Organised by Churches Together In Alderley the house collections took place last month and involved 57 people from Alderley Edge Methodist Church, St Pius, St Phillip & St James and St Marys Church in Nether Alderley.

This was part of a country wide collection and a major source of income for Christian Aid. Over 200,000 people take part nationally, raising about £15m each year to help others throughout the world - most of whom are living on less than £1 per day.

The money is used to support schools and health services, to set up cooperatives supplying us with fair trade products, as well as provide relief following natural disasters. A main objective is to help people to escape the trap of grinding poverty to become self sufficient and the money goes to people of all faiths.

Reverand Jane Parry, from St Phillip & St James, said "Raising £4,098.00 was brilliant considering the financial presuures people are under at the moment. It would have been a record but the 'gift aid' has dropped from 28% to 25%... but never mind an excellent result anyway."

I am so pleased that we managed to raise this amount in the village. Thanks everyone! I was collecting on behalf of Christian Aid and it seemed that not many people were donating - so thanks to everyone who did! It has restored my faith in human nature given the financial pressures we are all facing.
