Scouts hold annual St George's parade

The Alderley Edge St George's Day Parade and Service took place on Sunday, 17th April.

Led by the Alderley District Scout Band, over 250 youngsters took part in the parade, which included members of 11 local scout groups.

They departed from the Chorley Hall Lane playing fields and marched down London Road to St. Philip and St. James Church for the St George's Day Service, led by Reverend Jane Parry.

The scouts were joined in the packed church by guests, including the Mayor of Cheshire East, Councillor Gordon Baxendale, Lady Ann Winterton and Councillor Matthew Lloyd.

Derek Wiles, Alderley District Scout Chairman, said "With good weather our annual St George's Day Parade and Service passed off well. Although numbers were down due to clashing with the Easter School Holidays we still managed to fill the church and the service.

"The lead Group, 6th Wilmslow, carried out their duties as expected and also received our trophy for the smartest group.

"After the service our dismissal in Alderley Park was watched with great interest by people out enjoying the sun."
