Cheshire East Council and Birse Civils have been handed another award for the construction of the A34 Alderley Edge and Nether Alderley Bypass.

The council and their contractors were awarded silver at the annual Considerate Constructors Awards in Manchester on Wednesday, March 30th.

They were deemed to have; been considerate to all those affected by the construction, minimised disruption, been aware of the impact on the local environment and ensured the construction site was clean, tidy and well-presented.

They were also considered to have ensured good communication with all those affected, created a sense of pride within the construction industry and promoted the Considerate Constructors scheme.

Doug Mackie, Cheshire East Council project manager, said "This is the second year in a row we have been recognised by the Considerate Constructors Scheme. I would like to thank Birse Civils for their hard work throughout the construction – their thoughtful approach to such a large project did much to alleviate residents concerns and ensure the smooth-running of the project."

In 2010, Cheshire East Council and Birse Civils won gold at the Considerate Constructors Scheme Awards, where they were one of just 63 out of 7,700 sites to achieve this status.

The bypass was also named North West Transportation Project of the Year 2010 at the Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation Awards and at the Builder & Engineer Awards 2010 the prestigious Builder & Engineer Civil/Highway Project of the Year was awarded to Cheshire East Council and Birse Civils for the A34 Alderley Edge and Nether Alderley Bypass.
