MGS scrum-half selected for Cheshire

Scrum-half Huw Smith, from Alderley Edge, might not be the biggest player on the team, but he can certainly make himself heard.

After a stunning season with Manchester Grammar School, the 14-year-old from Ryley's Lane, has just been selected for the Cheshire Under-15 side.

Huw said "At scrum-half you have to make yourself heard, you've got to boss the pack about and drive them forward.

"It's a great honour to be selected for the county. Like any young player I just want to get as far in the game as I possibly can."

Huw is one of four Manchester Grammar School Under-15s to have been selected for either the Cheshire or Lancashire county side.

His team is unbeaten, having won nine and drawn four of their 13 games.

Coach Sean Spratling said: "Huw's leadership and his influential performances at scrum-half have been key factors in a much-improved season for us."
