New pipes for Ryleys Lane

Engineers from United Utilities will this week be replacing old, leak prone metal water mains in Alderly Edge with modern new plastic equivalents.

Corroded pipes, some of which are more than 50 years old, will be replaced on Ryleys Lane either side of the junction with Chorley Hall Lane.

The work will take around three weeks to complete and temporary traffic lights will be in place, but the road will remain open.

The move is part of a multi-million pound investment scheme to upgrade water pipes across Cheshire, in order to improve water quality and reduce the risk of bursts and leaks.

John Nock, United Utilities project manager for the scheme said "This investment will mean even better water quality and fewer leaks for businesses and homes in Alderly Edge.

"The pipes we are replacing have reached the end of their useful life. Their age makes them more prone to leaks and replacing them is an important way of saving water, and preventing other issues such as water discolouration.

"We'd like to thank motorists for bearing with us, while we carry out this essential work."

Obviously this work is vital but will cause big delays on Rileys Lane. Can we now have Welsh Row reopened to give an alternative way to reach Nether Alderley? The bypass contractors appear to be keeping it closed whilst they vacate their site but it is now well overdue for opening. Come on, Birse Civel. Hand it back!!

A lot more work required to link the existing Welsh Row road to the new bridge over the bypass. Had a look on Sunday and they need to match up different levels, put in the cycle path to the bypass etc etc. The Birse site looks like a bit of a tip at present. The damage to Soss Moss Lane and Nursery Lane will keep the East Cheshire pot hole fillers in work for months.

As many of you will have noticed three way temporary signals are currently in use at the junction of London Road and Ryleys Lane which are causing considerable traffic jams.

Cheshire East have confirmed today that the configuration of the signals has been altered and the signals will be monitored and controlled to reduce congestion but the delays for traffic through Alderley Edge are expected to continue until Sunday 13th February.

The Council are advising all drivers to use the new A34 Alderley Bypass where possible to avoid delays in the village .
