Alderley Edge Scout Group was founded in December 1910 so this month they are celebrating their 100th anniversary.

To mark the centenary, the scout group will join the family carol service at Alderley Edge Methodist Church on Sunday, December 19th and during the service Rev Ben Clowes will bless their group flags, centenary neckerchief and centenary badges. The celebrations will continue next year with a series of trips, camps and sports competitions.

Group Scout Leader Nigel Hine said "It was during 1910 that scouting started in Alderley Edge. The whole idea of scouting took off, and new recruits came from villages around. That one patrol became two, then three.

"It was obvious that a scout troop needed to be formed so an application was made to the Scout Headquarters in London. The Alderley Edge Boy Scout Troop was then formed following the receipt of a warrant issued by H.Q. in December 1910."

This year has been a particularly successful one for the Alderley Edge Scout Group because, as we reported last month, Ben, Gordon and Patrick joined around 200 others from across the county to receive the Chief Scout's Gold Award from the UK Scouting's Chief Commissioner. One Beaver from the group also completed his Chief Scout Bronze award.

Nigel said "I would also like to thank my team of volunteers and every one who has supported us over the past 100 years. Without their help we would not be in a position to mark this special occasion."

Visit the Alderley Edge Scout Group website for further details about the group and their centenary celebrations.

The Family Carol Service will take place at Alderley Edge Methodist Church at 11am on Sunday, December 19th.
