Birse pay for clean up of children's play area

DSC_0713

As of 9 a.m. today, there are two painters at work in the childrens’ play area in the park. They will be working there for two days. They are to wood stain all the fencing around the play area along with the bench/seating and any wood parts of the equipment.

Birse Civils, the bypass contractors, are footing the bill. This was ‘set up’ following meetings between Birse Civils and myself along with Kriss Coombes from Friends of Alderley Park.

Hopefully this will improve the appearance of the play area and prolong its ‘life’. Hopefully painting of the equipment will follow in due course!

Duncan and Kriss, thank you for organising this with Birse. I noticed that the long wooden bar, which my children loved playing on disappeared over the Summer. Elizabeth Wilson from Cheshire East Council told me it had come to the end of its life and was removed before it became dangerous. I understand there used to be a roundabout but that was also removed for safety reasons. Are there any plans (or funds!) to replace equipment?

Hi Catherine,
Thanks for your approval re. Birse.
The bar etc. went because a RoSPA inspection deemed them a possible danger (ummm!).
We have facilities for toddlers (the play area) in the park and there's tennis courts and a small footy area (a spot of painting for the posts there would be good and I am nagging C. East about that) for older children BUT nothing for the in-between age group. I have a meeting in January with the 'Playbuilder Project Lead Officer' at which I will start to nag on about a new facility for that age group and since the 'cuts' have been much less than was feared, who knows? It will take time alas as the C. East 'machine' moves slowly; hopefully if there's a positive outcome, it will be in time for your children to use and not just your grandchildren!
