The Christie team were kept very busy day at Sunday's Christmas Farmers' Market raising funds from the tea stall, raffle and Norman's bucket collection. In total they managed to raise an impressive £444 in just 4 hours.

Erlin Toong, who organised the fundraising on behalf of The Christie, said " Thanks to Christine Munro for baking her gorgeous mince pies and donating the mulled wine. We found the best way was to walk around offering them to the public for donations and we collected just over £50 from our walkabouts.

"I'm proud to say this year's raffle prizes consist of a luxury Christmas hamper, a bottle of Bollinger champagne and an Elemis luxury spa pack which have all been donated by my friends and myself. We will have been to 6 farmers markets over the last 2 months selling raffle tickets and our last outing will be Marple Garden Centre on Sunday, 19th December, the raffle draw will take place the same day."

Since starting their 2010 Christmas campaign at the end of October, Erlin and her team have raised a total of £1,546 for The Christie. Erlin, who was treated at The Christie herself, began fund raising for them in 2007 and, together with a team of friends, has raised in excess of £16,000.

She said "The majority of this money has been raised at farmers markets in the area - courtesy of Christine and Hugh Munro.

"Fund raising has been a most humbling experience for me and it's my way of giving a little bit back to The Christie for the treatment and support afforded to me 4 years ago."

42 farmers and producers attended yesterday's farmer's market which had a real festive feel with mulled wine, mince pies and Christmas carols.

The Alderley Edge Farmer's Market is held on the 2nd Sunday of every month and runs from 9am till 1pm at the Festival Hall.
