Police clamp down on speeders

speeding A Edge 003

I have been arranging for Police colleagues who are trained to use the endorsable speed gun to run operations in Alderley Edge.

It is clear from reading the alderleyedge.com forum and speaking with local residents that there is a need for some proactive action to be taken against speeding motorists.

We began this operation on Heyes Lane recently and I intend covering other roads which I believe are problematic.

Can you do the same with pavement parking please? ; the corner in the picture often has cars parked on pavement tight to the junction.

Pavement parking at its most selfish can be seen daily on Chorley Hall Lane outside or very close to the Fish and Chip shop, early evening.

People just too selfish, too lazy, too fat or just plain ignorant to park within the law whilst getting their chip fix. Some increased Police activity and zero tolerance of offenders could improve road safety. Book them officer!!!!!!

Personally I think something desperately needs to be done about the junction of Brook Lane and the A34 at drop off/pick up time for Alderley Girls' School. I though I had seen some bad driving/parking in my time (the Peripherique in Paris and Central Cairo come to mind) but it's worse around that junction than anywhere I've ever encountered. The sheer lunacy of where cars stop/park is breathtaking. It is a fatality waiting to happen and has just got worse over the years...

The corner the traffic officer is gunning on is not where the speeding is such an issue as there are the bends and the tricky junction that slow drivers down. Efforts should be on the straight section past the Royal Oak - this is the racing area , speeds of up to , I reckon , 60mph on occasions are reached there. Also , Can anyone explain why there a double yellows on the straight area past the Royal Oak and no lines on the bad bends (pictured above) as the parking just compounds the issues by reducing to a single carriageway on a blind bend? I'm all for putting cameras on Heyes Lane and Mottram road before there is a terrible accident.
