Village benefits from Community Service

DSC03497

Alderley Edge is benefiting from the good work that Community Service offers because, as your local PCSO, I have arranged with the Probation Service for a series of visits from Community Service workers.

They arrived last Wednesday and cleared the pathway which runs from the Festival Hall to Heyes Lane. They worked well as a team and even had time to begin clearing up the road which runs around the hall.

I have booked their services for three visits in December and intend using them in the new year. Please advise me which areas you feel would benefit from a clean up?

Community Service orders provide unpaid work for offenders, which is of value to the community and an alternative to custody.

Removing the rubbish from the A34 verges from the Merlin roundabout up to Polar Ford would be good. A health and safety nightmare I presume?

Removing snow from paths etc would be good as well, another health and safety nightmare?

It would be better for Highways to tackle the A34 verges Craig. Health and safety comes into play. If the snow is still with us when community service visit again, I will suggest clearing snow from the paths.

Having used the pathway 2 days ago that was cleared, I now know why I was so pleasantly surprised, thank you.
A great help for all ages in the village would be to clear the pavement from the RBS crossing to Ryleys Lane crossing of wet leaves. This is used constantly and has become extremely slippy and mucky.

I was all for this payback scheme but having just walked to my local shop for milk I came across about 6 workers down the pathway by the railway station, as i walked through 2 of them stopped working and stared at me while another made a comment about my legs, the supervisor then shouted his name, it was quite intimidating having to walk through them let alone that!

There is a small lane that runs from the railway bridge on Davey Lane to the railway station car park...its useful for getting from the north of the village into the village entre, without having to criss-cross the A34/London Road.

No-one is sure who owns the lane but the Parish Council have 'looked after' it for a few years...clean it and cut back the vegetation. This year's spring clean was due, I didn't want to spend your money, so I chatted with Stephen Higham of 'Higham's Garage' and he (a sense of civic duty) volunteered one of his car-wash lads to do the job for free. I had also mentioned the job to our PCSO (Jim) re. his 'Community Payback' lads...of course, everybody turned up at the same time!...whatever!...the lane has been cleaned (rubbish and soil) and veg. trimmed on Wednesday...so many thanks to our PCSO and to Stephen Higham.
