Police helicopter responds to attempted burglary

We had several enquiries regarding the Cheshire Police helicopter which was hovering over Alderley Edge yesterday evening and the heavy police presence in the area.

Sergeant Andy Miller from Wilmslow Neighbourhood Police Unit informed us that the helicopter was over Alderley Edge last night because of an attempted burglary at a house on Woodbrook Road where four males were disturbed by the occupants.

The four offenders had approached the detached property, removed ladders from the side of the garage and placed them up against the wall of the house. One offender attempted to lever open the first floor window.

Having heard a noise at the side of the house the occupants viewed the four men on CCTV as they went to the rear of the property and tried the handle of the french doors. The police arrived shortly after receiving the call but the four men escaped over the rear wall in to the neighbouring gardens.

Sergeant Miller said "Numerous patrols responded and were out searching the area along with a dog handler. Unfortunately they managed to get away but the matter is being investigated."

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The 4 males were all aged between 18 and early 20's, and slim in build. They were wearing hooded tops and perhaps balaclavas's. The likelihood is that they would have been dropped off at the location by car at around 20.30 hours as this is when they were seen.
