The annual christmas lights switch on will take place this Thursday, November 18th on The Parade from 6pm until 7.30pm.

The event will be hosted by the Alderley Edge Action Group as a thank you to all those who support local shops and businesses.

Crowds will be entertained with performances from the Alderley District Scout Band, Alderley Edge School for Girls and Melissa Atkinson, a Year 10 student from Wilmslow High School who has performed at the Alderley Edge Festival and the North West Singing Festival.

A hog roast, mince pies and mulled wine will be available, there will be the ever popular visit from Father Christmas and Fruitcake will be offering free face painting for children.

The Christmas lights, sponsored by Bluemantle, The Bubble Room, Pannone, The Emerson Group, Chafes and Councillor Yvonne Wrinch, will be switched on by a mystery guest.

They will be assisted in their task by Amaya Gavin, aged 7, from Alderley Edge Primary School and Zoe Fogg, also aged 7, from Alderley Edge School for Girls, who both won the annual school's poster competition.

Update: Manchester United and Holland goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar will be switching on the lights.
