Alderley Edge girls team up with BiG Storage

Alderley Edge School for Girls has gained the support of BiG Storage in Handforth for their 'Ship a Library' campaign. Over the half-term holiday, Alderley girls are collecting items for the Mambrui Secondary School in Kenya, a community based organisation helping to educate local children.

Although the Kenyan school has managed to raise funds for a new girls' dormitory and a library, it is currently empty. The challenge for the school is to collect items such as books, board games, jigsaws and educational DVDs, in addition to any old computers, and fill a 20 foot container which will be shipped to Mombasa before Christmas.

The school is now opening the collection out to the local community will be inviting other schools in the area to participate with the hope that they will join forces after the half-term holiday.

Business Studies teacher Lynn Merry has been leading the project and spoke of her gratitude towards those already volunteering, and the Handforth based company, "BiG Storage has provided free storage space for our collection items and over £1,000 worth of boxes to help us with the project so a very big thank you goes out to them. We really would encourage people to get involved, and hope that the community will support us with the collection so that the Kenyan school will be able to use their new library in the New Year."
