Cheshire East has a rich and varied heritage which is reflected in the buildings and structures which make up its towns and villages.

In order to recognise this distinctive heritage, Cheshire East Council has prepared a Local List of Historic Buildings and an accompanying Supplementary Planning Document. These are intended to identify buildings and structures within Cheshire East that are of local importance yet do not appear on the English Heritage statutory list.

Amongst this Local List of Historic Buildings are 14 located in Alderley Edge, many of which were nominated by residents who feel these buildings enhance both the street scene and sense of distinctiveness in the village.

The Festival Hall, War Memorial, Postmasters House and De Trafford Arms appear on the list, along with 10 residential properties on Beechfield Road, Brook Lane, Congleton Road, Macclesfield Road, Ryleys Lane and Whitebarn Road.

The local list has been published to enable those buildings or structures to be closely watched and to influence the planning process in relation to them, however, inclusion in this list does not afford any additional statutory protection or grant aid.

Councillor Peter Mason, Cabinet member with responsibility for procurement, assets and shared services, said: "Cheshire East has a rich and varied heritage which is reflected in the buildings and structures which make up its towns and villages. The council is keen to recognise this distinctive heritage.

"The buildings included on the list positively contribute to the quality of the local areas in question. The public role in the preparation of this list has been an important one and I thank all residents across the borough for their contribution."

The document was formally adopted by Cheshire East Council on 14th October and the Council is currently preparing the final printed version of the Local List of Historic Buildings, which will include a photograph and description of each of the buildings included in the list. In the meantime, the Supplementary Planning Document guidance and an index list of the buildings can be viewed on the Cheshire East website.
